The Search for Stanley

You've probably noticed that the frequency of my blog posts has declined over the past couple of months. Is it because of the end of school? Is it because of the home renovations we've been doing?  Or, is it because of the Blues AMAZING Stanley Cup run? Realistically speaking, it's all of the above. But I can't deny the amount of time we've spent watching hockey these past couple of months.

When we finished the basement a few years ago, Billy was excited to display all of his Blues paraphernalia that had been in storage for years. I guess that's why it has been the perfect setting for our family to enjoy this amazing playoff run.

On game nights, we'd get baths out of the way right after dinner, and head down to snuggle up in blankets and watch the game. Weather home or away, we were together, as a family, enjoying the time and making fun of Billy getting so anxious during every single game.

Once the kids were finishing up school for the year, we let them stay up later and later with us to watch the games too.  If I am honest though, Barrett didn't make it through an entire game without falling asleep until games 6 of the finals. Yes...he's sleeping in the picture below. It was taken during game 3 of the finals.

Since Billy and I started dating, he has always said that if the Blues make it to the Stanley Cup finals, he would be there. He said it didn't matter how much it cost, he wanted to be part of that. So, once they made it to the finals, we bought tickets to Game 4. It was the most amazing Blues game experience I've ever had. After an awful game 3, the Blues came through for an outstanding win. After we left the arena, people were still cheering in the hallways, bathrooms and up and down the streets.  It was amazing!

After another win in Game 5, we decided to take the kids downtown to see the festivities leading up to game 6. We wandered through the watch party for a bit so the kids could join in the festivities. It was crazy how many other Blues fans were downtown to just sit outside in lawn chairs and watch the game together.

Billy and I watched the game from Ballpark Village with my brother and sister-in-law. It was a fun experience, even if the loss was disappointing. It was amazing to see how all of the Blues fans came together to cheer on the Blues and, even when losing, people were excited to be there celebrating the fact that we were even playing in game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals.

As the city prepared for a game 7 on the road, we ended up deciding to watch the game at home in the same space where we'd watched the games all season. I was shocked by how many people were congregating downtown, despite the fact that the team wasn't even there. In the end, when we won, it was so amazing. The kids were screaming, Billy was in shock, and I couldn't stop smiling. It was an amazing moment to share with each other and with this city.

Today, we got to enjoy watching the parade to recognize this amazing achievement. While we didn't head downtown to share this moment with the rest of St. Louis, the kids and I watched it in the comfort of our own home.  It was so fun to see the excitement and emotion from all of the players, alumni, and fans. It is truly amazing to be part of this community of Blues fans.

So, here's to the Blues. Thank you for all of the heart, hard-work, and authenticity that you bring and for the awesome trophy that this city can finally claim. Here's to the Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues.
